André Brönnimann

Surrealism, portraiture and photorealism

André Brönnimann is a self-taught New Zealand artist working primarily in oils and acrylics. His early paintings were strongly influenced by the surrealism of Salvador Dalí, before his practice shifted towards portraiture and photorealism in 2010. Through these disciplines, he has continued to develop and refine his technical skills, combining detailed observation with a distinctive approach to painting.

Brönnimann first gained wider recognition through the national Telecom Phone Book Art Competition, which he won on four occasions. He has since received numerous art awards, most notably winning the prestigious Adam Portraiture Award in 2016 for his oil painting Sisters, awarded by the New Zealand Portrait Gallery.
