Robert Campion

surrealism

noun 1. a 20th-century avant-garde movement in art and literature which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the irrational juxtaposition of images. (Oxford Reference online)

Robert Campion is a surrealist artist from Auckland, New Zealand, who works exclusively in oil on canvas. His intricately detailed paintings of NZ reflect his love of the New Zealand bush, particularly geographical spaces with which he has a personal connection.

A fan of the Flemish painter Vermeer, Robert paints in greys first to achieve tonal balance before applying colour. He is a realist painter and has extensive experience in figurative studies with a specialisation in portraiture. Robert is available to do private commissions.

Robert has been a professional teacher and artist for over 20 years. He has works in many private and public collections nationwide and overseas. A major commission now hangs in the Auckland Town Hall.
