Marilyn Monroe

Andy Warhol

Few images are more closely associated with Pop Art than Andy Warhol's portraits of Marilyn Monroe. Using a publicity photograph of the Hollywood actress as his starting point, Warhol transformed her into one of the defining cultural icons of the twentieth century through his distinctive use of vivid colour, repetition and graphic form.

This limited edition screenprint is signed in the plate, hand-numbered from an edition of 2,400, and bears the Carnegie Museum of Art (CMOA) mark on the reverse.

More than half a century after Warhol first popularised Marilyn Monroe as a Pop Art icon, these images continue to symbolise the intersection of celebrity, popular culture and modern art, remaining among the most recognisable works associated with the artist.
