BANKSY

Banksy is a British street artist whose identity remains unknown, yet his work is instantly recognisable and globally influential. He first emerged in the 1990s as part of Bristol’s underground art scene, quickly gaining attention for his bold, stencilled images combined with sharp political and social commentary. His street murals often appear overnight in unexpected locations, turning public walls into provocative statements about war, consumerism, authority, and inequality.

Over time, Banksy’s work has moved from the street into galleries and major auction houses—though not without controversy. Despite his criticism of the commercial art world, his pieces have sold for millions, including the partially shredded Love is in the Bin and the much-loved Girl with Balloon. His limited-edition prints are also highly sought after, with strong demand in both primary and secondary art markets.

Banksy’s larger projects have expanded his influence even further. These include Dismaland, a dark parody of a theme park, and the Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem, which functions as both an art installation and a political statement. These ventures reflect Banksy’s continued commitment to using art as a tool for activism and public discourse.

Banksy’s combination of mystery, message, and medium has made him one of the most compelling and collectible artists of the 21st century.

About Banksy’s Resin Sculptures from the Walled Off Hotel

Banksy's resin sculptures sold at the Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem were meticulously crafted through a collaborative process that combined his conceptual designs with the artistry of local Palestinian craftspeople.

Design and Production: Banksy conceptualised the sculptures, which were then produced in the UK using enhanced polymer resin to mimic segments of the Israeli West Bank barrier. These pieces often featured iconic imagery, such as the "Flower Thrower" or messages like "Love" and "Hope".

Hand-Painting by Local Artists: Once shipped to Bethlehem, local Palestinian artists hand-painted each sculpture, following Banksy's original designs. This collaboration ensured that each piece was unique and infused with local artistic expression.

Approval and Authentication: After painting, images of the sculptures were sent back to Banksy for approval. Each piece was uniquely numbered and came with an original purchase receipt from the Walled Off Hotel, serving as a certificate of authenticity.

These sculptures were sold exclusively at the Walled Off Hotel's gift shop and were not available online. The limited availability and unique nature of each piece have made them highly sought after by collectors.
